Important Email Changes

We’re making some changes to our email system in order to make it safer and more secure for our customers.

Sending Email

From tomorrow, the 1st October 2019, you will no longer be able to use port 25 or port 465 to send email, you will only be able to send email through port 587. This doesn’t affect email forwarding, it only affects sending email through SMTP for addresses @yourdomain.

Most of our customers are already using port 587, but if you’re not or are unsure, there are instructions below on how to change the port for a range of different devices.

From tomorrow you will also be able to use STARTTLS encryption when sending email, and we recommend that all our customers switch to it for improved security.

These are the only changes, and you only need to change the port if you’re not already using port 587.

Changing to Port 587

Changing the port is very simple and is merely a case of opening your email application and changing the Outgoing (SMTP) port to 587. You don’t have to make any other changes and you should not make any changes to the incoming or receiving ports or make any changes to the server name.
