The Tramway and Light Railway Society is a UK-based organisation that promotes the study and preservation of tramways and light railways. It publishes a bi-monthly magazine, and encourages and supports tramway modelling through various exhibitions and events. The Society also maintains a vast archive of photos and drawings as well as organising visits to tramway and railway sites, and supporting various preservation projects. The website launched on the 30th November 2021.
The Brief
The TLRS were looking for a new website for the Society, one that would allow visitors and their members to find out more about the TLRS, their events, meetings and what being a member of the TLRS offered. They also wanted to offer tips and advice on tramway modelling as well as to display tram models created by their members.
As well as providing information to visitors and members, the TLRS also wanted the ability for members to renew their membership of the Society through the website, as well as be able to purchase a range of modelling parts and books.
The TLRS wanted a website that was easy to navigate and modern, and that matched their logo and colour scheme, whilst presenting as much information as possible.
What We Did
We created a number of use cases of how visitors and member of the Society would likely interact with and use the website. From these and the details provided by the TLRS, we were able to prioritise the layout and the information to be presented on the website.
We created a homepage that presented a little background information about the TRLS as well as giving details on upcoming events and news. The Bi-Monthly magazine was also promoted on the homepage along with details of what the benefits being a member of the TLRS would be.
The Result
The website for the TLRS was built using HTML5, CSS3, SASS and using the Bootstrap framework. The website was built to run on the WordPress platform and used WooCommerce as the e-commerce side of the website. The TLRS were therefore able to add information to the website on news and events, as well as manage the products that they intended to sell through the website. The website was purchased as part of our E-Commerce Website Package and is hosted on our Professional Hosting Package.
The TLRS were very pleased with the finished website and expressed their gratitude and appreciation for our professionalism and expertise. We look forward to working with them again in the future.
